Annual American Literature Association Conference

Jerry Findley will chair the Katherine Anne Porter Society session at the 34th American Literature Association Conference. The conference will take place May 25-28, 2023, at the Westin Copley Place in Boston, MA. Conference details and information about hotel reservations are available through the web site of the American Literature Association, https://americanliteratureassociation.org/.

The Porter session, “New Interests in the Life and Work of Katherine Anne Porter,” will take place on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 4 pm. The papers will include “‘Between truth and well-regulated fiction’: Katherine Anne Porter and George Platt Lynes in Letters and Photographs,” by Beth Alvarez, University of Maryland; “Modernist Women in Paris: Exploring the Archives of Katherine Anne Porter and Djuna Barnes,” by Amber Marie Kohl, University of Maryland; and “Mexican Romance: Katherine Anne Porter and los Contemporaneos,” by Geneva M. Gano, Texas State University.  The Society’s annual business meeting will follow the session at 5:30 pm.

Katherine Anne Porter Society Graduate Student Paper Award

The Katherine Anne Porter Society is pleased to invite submissions for its biannual Graduate Student Paper Award. Interested applicants should submit an article-length (15-25 page) paper on any Katherine Anne Porter topic. The winner, who will be announced on December 1, 2024, will be invited to present a shortened form of the paper at the annual Katherine Anne Porter Society Session at the 2025 American Literature Association Conference. The award-winning paper will be featured in an article of the Katherine Anne Porter Society Newsletter. The award also brings a monetary prize of $500.
